The Association of Historical Settlements in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia (SHS ČMS) is helping to create conditions and instruments for the preservation and permanently sustainable use of the cultural heritage.

The Association was established at the initiative of east Bohemian towns in November 1990.
On 1 Juny 2010, the Association had 209 members, including 201 full members (villages, towns and their parts), and 8 associate members.
The significance of the Czech Republic as a destination of tourism rests on the multitude of historic, cultural and technical monuments and sites. The main problem of tourism in the Czech Republic is that some 57 % of non-residents visit only Prague although prerequisites for the development of cultural tourism exist throughout the country. But residents must also be acquainted with the possibilities of visiting cultural monuments in the Czech Republic.... see more
The prize for the best preparation and realisation of the Programme of the Regeneration of Urban Monument Reserves and Urban Monument Zones in 2009 and the title Historic Town of the Year 2009 has been awarded to the Town of Beroun.
The results of the competition were announced on Tuesday, 13 April 2010 in the afternoon in a ceremony on the International Day of Monuments and Sites in the Spanish Hall of Prague Castle convened by the Minister of Culture, the Minister for Regional Development, the President of the SHS ČMS and the President of the Czech National Committee of ICOMOS in co-operation with the Office of the President of the Czech Republic and the Administration of Prague Castle.

In 2007, the Association of Historical Settlements in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia was asked by the main organizer – the Council of Europe – to arrange the competition in this country under its auspices. The Association gladly agreed and the result has been three successful editions. The competition ends with the presentation of prizes and diplomas on the occasion the International Monuments and Sites Day in a ceremony at Prague Castle, this year on 15 April... see more
